Pakistan has a good reason to call for 16 days of activism against gender violence, an end to human rights day, during the five days from now thinking about the consequences of high levels of violence against women. When this campaign started on November 25, since 2000, every year for the celebration of the international day to eliminate violence against women, many civil society organizations, jointly and severally, concerned about the high number of acts of violence against women.

These efforts are commendable, but they did not go far enough. In the rest of the scope of work is not much meaningful day activities. And to make matters worse, one waited in vain for any fresh initiatives to address violence against women by the Government of origin or even to reduce its size. Relevant statistics are truly alarming. According to unofficial statistics 5,151 women suffer violence in Punjab province this year alone – 774 murdered, of which 217 killed ‘ honors ‘,1,569 kidnapped, 706 rape/rape and 427 driven to suicide.
