Novak Djokovic beaten in first round of men’s singles by Juan Martin Del Potro.

Novak Djokovic’s hopes of becoming the third man to claim the Career Golden Slam are over for another four years after he was dumped out of the Rio Olympics in the first round by Juan Del Potro.

The world number one, who was stunned in the third-round at Wimbledon in July, was overpowered by Del Potro in an enthralling match which lasted two hours and 29 minutes, going down in straight sets 7-6(4) 7-6(2).

Djokovic’s defeat means Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal remain the only men to have won all four Grand Slams during their career as well as a gold medal in the Olympic singles event.
